About the Artist

IMG_2672.jpg

Kara McIntosh is a contemporary Canadian painter who explores the rhythms and patterns of the natural landscape in an abstracted style. Using strong, assured brushwork, Kara works to capture her own connections to the natural world, collect moments, share the feel of a place, tell a story.

Inspired by the way that movement and light inform the complementary relationship between land or water and the sky, Kara works en plein air, but also uses photographs and sketchbook notes to help inform her studio practice.

By allowing undertones of bright colours to peek through the work and become intentional components of the composition, her landscapes often evoke the unexpected.

Kara lives near Nottawa, ON and works full-time from her studio in The Tremont at 80 Simcoe Street, Collingwood. Her works can be found in many private collections in Canada, the US, Europe and Australia.
