Driving anywhere near our home, especially in the Fall, provides a staggering amount of inspiration for me as a landscape painter. I don't get very far these days without pulling over to take pictures of the rural scenes that are so alive, mesmerising and beautiful. I study the colour in the clouds and try to feel how the breeze plays in the rolling fields. I watch closely as the light shifts and changes the shapes that are laid out before me. My kids often complain when I'm late to pick them up, but somedays I can't resist the pull of stopping along the way and taking in the the beauty of what surrounds me.
